Borrowing Policy

3.5 Borrowing

The Springfield Town Library maintains a vast collection of materials for lending to registered borrowers in good standing.  The collection includes traditional items such as books and media, as well as non-traditional library materials such as electronics, passes to area destinations, and other equipment.

Non-traditional library materials are part of the “Library of Things.” Some items in the Library of Things collection require the borrower to sign a separate agreement for their use (see Appendix T ). There are specific guidelines for borrowing passes (see Section 3.5.1 ). The Library shall not be responsible, under any circumstances, for any liability, damages, or expenses resulting from the use or misuse of these items or any other library materials.

Borrowers may place holds on some materials they wish to check out. Lending limits, fee schedules, and replacement costs are set by the Library administration in order to ensure that materials remain in circulation and available to patrons and for Library-sponsored programming.

The borrower assumes full financial responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged materials including associated items signed out with it.

3.5.1 Passes to area destinations

Springfield Town Library is pleased to offer a variety of passes to patrons free of charge, with support from the Friends of the Springfield Town Library. In order to ensure fair and equitable access to these passes, the Library has established the following guidelines.

  • Passes may be borrowed by Library cardholders who are 18 years of age or over and have no outstanding fines, fees, or overdue materials. Passes are available on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis. They cannot be reserved. Only two passes may be borrowed at a time.

  • Passes may be checked out for three (3) days.

  • Passes for any one destination may only be checked out once per month.

  • Passes may not be renewed and patrons must return all passes before borrowing another.

  • A fee of five dollars ($5.00) per day will be charged for passes that are not returned by their due date. Fees for lamination repair may also be imposed.

  • A pass not returned within fourteen (14) days after the due date will be considered lost.

  • Borrowers who lose passes will be responsible for paying the full replacement cost.

  • Each destination determines the rules and regulations governing the use of its pass. It is  strongly recommended that patrons call or visit the destination’s website to confirm their policies and hours prior to a visit. Passes typically exclude special exhibits or events.

  • The Library assumes no responsibility of any kind arising from the terms of a particular pass.
